"Care to Surrender?" LOTF by FalconFan "Care to Surrender?" LOTF by FalconFan
Another fangirl inspiration! :p For those who haven't read Legacy of the Force: Fury, I apologize for the spoiler (...as in, it's a scene from the book...):

Aboard the Star Destroyer Anakin Solo, Master Saba Sebatyne, Grand Master Luke Skywalker and Ben Skywalker have battled their way onto the bridge (through banks of troops and YVH destroyer droids) to finally confront Darth Caedus (formerly Jacen Solo), who offers a casual welcome; Luke just shakes his head and responds with "Care to surrender?" For this fangirly, that was truly a wonderful "Grand Master" moment! :D

Thanks for taking a look, and I hope (for those who've read the narrative already) I did this scene justice!

Thanks! I'm glad you like it--it was, for me, one of those really powerful moments in the LOTF story arc, where Luke's incredible strength of character and quiet self-assurance were so well written. Awesome! I very much appreciate your visit, kind words and especially the :+fav:! Thanks again! :D

Ha! I guess that means you liked the drawing! It WAS an epic moment for Luke (and Ben and Saba, too): despite his terrible loss, he could still battle his way through a phalanx of destroyer droids to confront his fallen nephew. I'm glad you like it, and thanks so much for the comment and especially for :+fav:ing it! :D

In case I haven't said anything about this yet...
I don't read the expanded universe, but this was EPIC! I mean, beautifully drawn. And you got Ben perfectly, I think. And then his hair would be strawberry blonde, and his eyes brown or dark green.
(That IS Ben, right?)

"(That IS Ben, right?)"

It is, indeed! He was with Master Saba and his father when they stormed the bridge of Caedus' Star Destroyer--already a full Knight at age 14... Takes after his dad, kinda! This WAS an epic scene in the book: pure SW, all the way, and I think that's why I had to try drawing it. And FYI--Ben's eyes are written as blue--like his dad's! ;)

Thanks so much for the kind comment and for the added :+fav:! :D

Oh. That's Luke all right! I would think that, if he'd (Luke) been in the old Jedi Order, he would've been promoted to Knight that young, too.

And you're welcome!

"EPIC!"

It WAS, in the book! I think that's why it begged to be illustrated: Luke, Ben and Saba, battling right straight through to the bridge of Caedus' flagship, and Luke just demanding his immediate surrender...EPIC is the perfect description! Thanks for the comment, and for taking time to drop by!

Gladly--it's on page 330, near the end of the book; the passage this image was based on starts about a third of the way down the page. I LOVED it, and it stuck with me, which was why I ended up drawing it, I think! ;)

i dont like you now because now i absolutely love this picture that i am addicted to reading the line in the book.... I have read the book twice from front to back and that line about millions of times. I love this picture that everytime my friend that is a star wars fan comes over i show that person this picture and that person loves the picture from here on out. This picture that you drew has been my favorite picture of all time. That part in the book was truly a Grand Jedi Master Moment...

Thanks for looking--and kids always have a resemblence to both their parents: here, I was trying hard to make him look both like Luke and his mother, Mara. Always a tough balancing act, especially with few if any references (though these days we're seeing more images of Ben! Yay!). Many thanks for the added :+fav:, and for taking time to comment! :D

Ha! ;) I suppose including a synopsis of the scene adds to the attraction--this was awesome to read, I have to admit: seeing Luke seriously doing the Grand Master Jedi thang, especially after having so recently lost his beloved Mara--and having to lift his weapon against his nephew, who he had so treasured as a student and a colleague.... Just wow! Again--I don't recommend reading the series if you don't want to--you could "sample" the books, though--"Fury" is a good one, as is "Inferno:" both have some spectacular action and Luke features highly in both. Thanks for the return visit, and for the kind words! :D

I loved that scene in Inferno, I keep re-reading it over and over again. It was basically Luke telling Jacen..."you don't want to F*** with me"as he proceeds to humiliate his pompous ass. Cause apparently Jacen forgot who he was dealing with, so our great jedi master had to remind him.

Oh no-no-no! Sorry to confuse you: the "Anakin Solo" was Jacen Solo's personal Star Destroyer in the book series "Legacy of the Force"--Jacen named the vessel after his younger brother, much to the dismay of his parents and sister. This scene was during an attempt by the Jedi to arrest Jacen, who by then had christened himself Darth Caedus--when Luke, Saba Sebatyne and Ben Skywalker battled their way onto the bridge of the ship, the "Anakin Solo." I hope that clears up the misunderstanding; as much as I'd like for Anakin Solo to still be alive...sadly, it is not so... Thanks for taking a look at this, anyway!

No worries--sometimes written words can be confusing the first time through (there are many times I have to read through something more than once, just to be sure I'm getting it right--things like dialogue and battle scenes and stuff), especially if we read fast! Glad we got it all straightened out!

I HAVE read "Invincible," actually--good book, but it felt a little rushed and seemed a bit short, for me anyway; as though it was trying to tie up a lot of loose plotlines threads and make a lot of lead-ins to the "Legacy" comic series, already in progress for some time and set well after the events of LOTF...

And yeah--Go, Grand Master Jedi! :boogie::boogie: I love seeing Saba Sebatyne in action, too--she's an awesome Jedi Master, too!

Too true. There was no closure for Jacen Jacen/Caedus at all- and it was ironic, that even though it took them eight books to start the war, they solved it in just over a chapter... :blahblah: [sigh] Have you gotten to 'Outcast' yet? I thought they did a great job with that one though... a great read indeed.

"i love the scorch marks on the ceiling and wall!"

Cool! The way the book described it, it was a furious firefight to get onto the bridge where Caedus waited--I figured it'd be more dramatic to have all that blaster scoring behind the relatively-unscathed Jedi! So glad you like it, and I really appreciate the added :+fav:! :D

"Good work on the Barabel there's not much in terms of reference for them"

Too true! All I really had to go on (for this and the other portrait of Saba) were a couple of comic-style linearts I found online (referenced from the Essential Guide to Aliens, I believe). From there, I ended up using my own ideas--so glad it seems to work! Thanks much for taking time to look and comment! :D

Thanks so much for taking time to look and comment (and most especially for the :+fav:!)! I'm also very glad it seems to capture the moment from the book for you (that's always a toss-up for an artist: when we illustrate a written scene, sometimes it fits for others who've read, and sometimes it falls far short--we all "compose" things uniquely in our own mind's-eyes, I think!)! It was a terrific "Grand Jedi Master" moment for Luke, I thought, and I really wanted to SEE it! Thanks again! :D
