Luke Skywalker, LOTF by FalconFan Luke Skywalker, LOTF by FalconFan
This is a portrait of an older, wiser Luke Skywalker, in the "Legacy of the Force" era of novels. I tried to age him, by way of some creases and wrinkles and a touch of silvering at the temples--I had plenty of help with the likeness and the aging (thanks again, AG88, for all the feedback and progress checks), and I hope this works for all the Luke fans out there!

Mechanical and classic graphite pencils on Bristol board.

Well, thank you kindly! I'm so glad you like it!  I kept trying to imagine what a more mature Luke might look like, and decided to try rendering him!  Thanks for the :+fav:, too!

I wouldn't mind seeing you do a picture of Ben at Luke's age.

"I wouldn't mind seeing you do a picture of Ben at Luke's age."

I haven't been drawing much in recent years, due to too much working (as it is for most people, I think)--as we go forward, I think you'll see a lot of talented artists taking on an adult Ben Skywalker, with marvelous results! Thanks for taking a look!

Wow I think you did a really good job making him look older but still look Luke-ish! Great work!

"I think you did a really good job making him look older but still look Luke-ish!"

Thanks--it's always a struggle, trying to "age" the well-known characters...how much is too much? Not enough...? I'm glad it still looks like Luke to you, though--and thanks so much! :D

Wow. I want to see what you do with Anakin Solo. I always thought that whoever chose the model for the coverart was a genius...

Thanks so much! And I totally agree: the cover art paintings of Anakin Solo ARE beautiful--so much so that it's tough to locate a "model" suitable for any other type of image... There are a number of terrific drawings of him here at dA, though--a quick search will turn up dozens for you! Thanks again!

Your illustration's are absolutely fantastic! I love how real they look and the expressions you give them almost make them look like photographs. Wonderful!

You're so kind--thank you so much! I wish I could take the credit for expressions, but truly: most of them come straight from the photos I use as references (with a very few exceptions): photos of the celebrities who played the roles, and photos of models I personally think are good representations of characters from the books. If you find the work "illustrative," then I've done the job I hoped to! :D I appreciate the visit and comments (and especially all the :+fav:s!)!

Many thanks! I might have "side-stepped" how old he may actually have looked in LOTF (I think we're all loathe to have our heroes AGE!), especially considering he was pushing 60 then--but I tried (it didn't help that I was working from a photo of a 20-something Mark Hamill, either! LOL!)! I'm so glad you like it, though, and really appreciate your :+fav:ing this, too! :D

Thank you so much for taking a look! I don't think you need to read the Star Wars EU, really--there are so many forums that discuss those events, that reading the books isn't really necessary to get the drift. A lot of the EU is pretty sad and dark, anyway.... I do appreciate your visit and comments! :D

Many thanks! I really love Luke Skywalker's character, and wanted to show him a bit more mature, as he might appear in the later EU novels. It's still not as "aged" as a lot of folks think he should be at this point--but heck, the Force MUST keep 'em young-looking, don't you think? ;) :p I very much appreciate the :+fav:, too! :D

I agree, Jedi get a bit more out of life than us non-sensitives.

I've always liked seeing the artwork on the later novels, and how the characters themselves have aged in different ways than their actor counterparts, which is why I like your take on Master Luke.

PS--I hope FOTJ will be a good series, with a little less searing grief...we'll have to wait and see, I guess!

Thank you kindly! I had a terrific reference photo to use for this (though it was Mark at around age 20, so there had to be some changes made for age!), and some intensive consultation with a great friend and fellow Deviant :iconag88:, who is my steadfast muse for all likenesses of Luke Skywalker (if you haven't checked out her gallery, run over and have a look--she's done some wonderful SW work!)! I'm glad it turned out the way it did--a decent likeness with some "distinguish-ment" for age added in! ;) :p Many thanks for taking time to look and comment--it's much appreciated! :D

Like the one of Han, I wanted to show our favorite Jedi Master a little older, a little wiser--maybe a bit more "worn," too. I'm happy it seems to fit with your idea of his appearance now! :D Thanks again--and most especially for adding it to your :+fav:s! :D

My heart broke with Luke's when he lost Mara--I cried for a long time after reading that short narrative (and also because I loved Mara's character--she was another fav of mine...). I can almost understand what that type of pain could be like (I'm lucky enough to have married my ideal mate!)--I think that's what made it all the more poignant to read... It IS good to see Luke taking back his birthright, though--I've missed THAT Luke for a while.

I know I cried too. It takes alot for things to make me cry but Star Wars has that power. Cause I cried when I read about Anakin Solo's death too. Yea I haven't married yet, but when I do it will be a full out Star Wars wedding :D. Yea I am glad Luke is doing that.

Yeah--there've been a few observations to that effect on this piece, lol! I wanted to show SOME aging, but figured a man suffused with the Force as he is would be aging pretty gracefully, despite all the turmoil in his life... Thank you kindly! I'm glad you like it--and I  your username, btw! ;) :p Yeah--that lingering "farmboy" part of him is one of the things that both frustrates us and continues to endear him to us: he always wants to see the best in a situation and in people (re: his nephew... **shudder**)--it's both a wonderful quality and a curse. We'll never know if Jacen might have been saved if Luke had been more attuned to what was happening... In any case--he's still one of my all-time fav characters! Thanks again--for the visit, the comments and especially for the :+fav:! :D
